The Math: One-Off Tune-Ups vs. Comfort Care Plan

Service One-Off Comfort Care Plan
Spring AC tune-up$99Included
Fall heater tune-up$99Included
15% off repairs—Yes
No overtime on after-hours emergency—Saves $50/call
Front-of-line scheduling—Yes
Automatic scheduling & reminders—Yes
Annual cost (base coverage, up to 2 systems)$198$199

The tune-up math is essentially at parity — the plan is only $1 more per year vs paying per-visit tune-ups. The plan wins on the other benefits: 15% off any repair (typical $520 repair saves $78), no overtime fees on emergencies (saves $50-$120 per after-hours call), front-of-line scheduling during heat waves and freezes, and coverage for up to 2 systems in one plan. Break-even on benefits happens with your first repair or emergency call of the year. Additional systems +$79/year each.

What Every Plan Visit Includes

Both tune-ups follow our standard 18-point / 21-point inspection depending on the system:

  • Spring AC tune-up (21-point): outdoor coil cleaning, capacitor microfarad test, refrigerant subcool/superheat verification, temperature split measurement, drain flush and treatment, full electrical inspection, and a written report. Details: AC maintenance page.
  • Fall heater tune-up (18-point): heat exchanger inspection, combustion analysis with calibrated flue gas analyzer, CO test at supply registers, flame sensor cleaning, all safety switches, gas pressure verification, and a written report. Details: $99 heater tune-up page.

Real-World Savings Examples

Three common scenarios from our actual customer patterns:

Scenario 1: The typical family (2 tune-ups only)
One-off cost: 2 × $99 = $198/year
Plan cost: $199/year
Cost delta: +$1/year for the plan — essentially parity. Small premium buys you priority scheduling + peace of mind + coverage for up to 2 systems.
Scenario 2: One repair happens during the year
Assume typical $520 capacitor + contactor + drain-clear repair.
One-off total: $198 + $520 = $718
Plan total: $199 + ($520 × 0.85) = $641
Savings: $77/year — plan starts paying for itself with any repair.
Scenario 3: After-hours emergency during a freeze or heat wave
Assume $129 after-hours diagnostic + $440 repair.
One-off total: $198 + $129 + $440 = $767
Plan total: $199 + $79 (no overtime) + ($440 × 0.85) = $652
Savings: $115/year — plan pays for itself 2x over on a single event.

Why We Built the Plan This Way

Most HVAC "membership" programs are designed to lock you in, hide fees, and generate recurring revenue for the parent company regardless of whether the customer actually uses the service. That's not our model.

The Comfort Care Plan is priced to be a fair deal even if you never call us between tune-ups. If you use it heavily (multiple repairs, emergencies), you save a lot. If you use it minimally (just the two tune-ups), the plan cost is essentially the same as paying per-visit (only $1/year more) but you still get priority scheduling, no waiting during peak season, and coverage for up to 2 systems in one plan. There's no scenario where the plan is a bad deal for the customer if you'd use both tune-ups anyway.

And month-to-month, cancel any time. Because you shouldn't have to fight to leave a service that isn't working for you.

Optional Add-Ons

  • Annual dryer vent cleaning: +$8/month ($96/year vs $129-$299 per one-off cleaning)
  • Annual IAQ test with written report: +$6/month ($72/year, covers particulate + humidity + VOC + CO baseline)
  • Whole-home air filter delivery: +$5/month for standard 1-inch (5-inch media filters higher)
  • Extended equipment labor warranty: +$12-$18/month depending on equipment age

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the $17/month Comfort Care Plan actually include?

Coverage for up to 2 HVAC systems: two annual tune-ups per system (spring AC + fall heater, $99 each), 15% off any repair work we do during the plan year, no overtime charges on after-hours emergency calls, front-of-line scheduling during heat waves and freezes, priority dispatch when you call, automatic scheduling with reminders, and a transferable plan if you sell your home. Additional systems are +$7/month or +$79/year each.

Is $17/month a good deal versus paying per visit?

Straight math: two $99 tune-ups per year one-off = $198. Plan = $199/year. So the plan is essentially the same price as two tune-ups (only $1 more per year) — but you also get 15% off any repair, no overtime fees on emergencies ($50-$120 saved per after-hours call), front-of-line scheduling, priority dispatch, and coverage for up to 2 systems. One after-hours call or single repair usually recovers the plan cost several times over. The plan wins on total value; the direct tune-up pricing is essentially at parity.

Is there a contract or cancellation fee?

Month-to-month. No long-term contract, no cancellation fee. Cancel anytime and any unused tune-ups can be scheduled before the plan ends. We don't lock people in — if the service isn't working for you, you should be able to walk away without a fight.

How does the 15% repair discount work?

Any repair we do during your plan year gets 15% off the total (parts + labor). Applied automatically at invoicing. On a typical $400 capacitor + contactor + coil-clean emergency call, that's $60 saved on a single visit — more than 3 months of plan cost recovered from one repair.

What counts as 'no overtime charges'?

Our standard after-hours diagnostic is $129 (vs $79 daytime). For plan members, after-hours calls are billed at the daytime rate — no $50 upcharge, no weekend premium. On a single after-hours call during a freeze or heat wave, that's $50 saved — roughly three months of plan cost recovered.

How does front-of-line scheduling work during peak season?

During heat waves and freeze events, our schedule fills up fast — sometimes 2-3 days out for non-emergency calls. Plan members get priority scheduling ahead of walk-in customers, meaning same-day or next-day service even when the phones are ringing off the hook. It's the difference between waiting 4 days for cool air in August or getting service the same afternoon.

Can I add extra services to my plan (dryer vent cleaning, IAQ, etc.)?

Yes. Add-ons: annual dryer vent cleaning ($8/month), annual IAQ test with report ($6/month), whole-home air filter delivery ($5/month for standard 1-inch filters, more for 4-5 inch media). We can also bundle commercial PM contracts for small businesses — different structure, quoted based on equipment.

What if I sell my house?

The plan transfers to the new owner at no additional cost. Just have them call us to update the account. Or we can prorate a refund for the unused portion — your choice.

How does the plan compare to warranty coverage?

The plan is not an insurance product — it's a maintenance and discount plan. It doesn't cover the cost of replacement parts (a $500 blower motor is still $500, minus the 15% discount = $425). What it DOES do is prevent most repair emergencies through maintenance, discount the ones that do happen, and preserve your manufacturer warranty by documenting annual maintenance. Different value than a home warranty.

Is the plan available for commercial customers?

Small commercial spaces (offices, retail, salons, small medical) can use the residential plan structure. Larger commercial (multi-RTU, restaurants, multi-tenant properties) get quoted a custom preventive maintenance contract with quarterly visits, documented reports for insurance, and multi-property pricing — see our commercial PM contracts page.

Do you actually remind me when it's time for a tune-up?

Yes — we send a text and email when your spring AC tune-up is due (March-April window) and again when your fall heater tune-up is due (October-November window). You pick the date that works for you. If you don't respond, we send one follow-up in the next window. We're not going to hound you.
